For values of \( k \) smaller than \( .25 \) there are stable fixed points at even multiples of \( /pi \) and unstable fixed points at odd multiples. As \( k \) exceeds its critical value the fixed points at the odd multiples become stable and a pair of unstable points is created next to them.
