Curator and author
Born in Palermo in 1949 and graduated in Physics in 1973, after passing through the usual steps of an academic career, in 2002 I was appointed full professor of Experimental Physics at the University of Catania.
My research activity has been carried out mainly in the field of experimental nuclear physics, with special attention to direct quasi-free reaction mechanism at low energy, indirect measurement of reaction cross sections of astrophysical interest and determination of the screening potential, formation and decay of deformed nuclear configurations associated with high spin excited states in medium-light nuclei, exotic clustering in light neutron-rich nuclei, effects of nuclear structure on reaction mechanism.
I am author of about 110 scientific publications in international journals and of a large number of contributions to national and international conferences.
In addition I performed an intense organisation activity in academic and research institutions, holding the following responsibility positions:
- Deputee Rector of the Catania University (1992-94),
- Member of the Academic Senate (1996-2002),
- Head of the Research Division of the INFN Laboratori Nazionali del Sud (2000-2007),
- Vice Dean of the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences (2003-2007).
On May 2007 I was appointed Director of the INFN Laboratori Nazionali del Sud.
