    Arkady Pikovsky (b. in Gorky, Russia, August 7, 1956) received his Ph.D. in Physical and Mathematical Sciences in 1982 from Gorky State University. From 1977 to 1990 he was a research scientist at the Institute of Applied Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 1990 he joined the University of Wuppertal in Germany as a Humboldt Fellow, staying there until 1992 when he moved to the Max Planck Nonlinear Dynamics Group at Potsdam University. In 1997 he was made a Professor of Theoretical Physics at Potsdam University.

    Dr. Pikovsky specializes in the synchronization in chaotic systems and neural networks, phase synchronization, control of synchrony, and the statistical physics of spatiotemporal chaos dynamics. He also works on noise-induced phenomena and data analysis. Throughout his career, Dr. Pikovsky has authored numerous scientific papers. He was a member of the editorial board of Physical Review E from 2000 to 2005. Currently he is a member of the editorial board of Physica D and CHAOS. Since 2006 he has been a Member of the DFG (German Research Foundation) Review Board for Statistical Physics and Nonlinear Dynamics.
