    Dr Jesper Sjöström is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Research in Neuroscience, Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at the McGill University Health Centre. His research is focused on the mechanisms, phenomenology, and functional consequences of Spike-Timing-Dependent Plasticity (STDP) in neocortical circuits. His team employs two-photon laser scanning microscopy, quadruple whole-cell recordings, optogenetics, and computational modelling.

    Dr Sjöström obtained his PhD in 2002 at Brandeis University, working under the supervision of Dr Sacha B. Nelson. Between 2003 and 2007, he did his postdoctoral studies in the lab of Michael Häusser at University College London. Until 2011, Dr Sjöström ran an independent lab at University College London as a Medical Research Council Career Development Fellow.
